From the light on a beautiful face to the glow of a simple still life, this class is about learning to see—and paint—the quiet beauty in everyday life. Each week, Dominique demonstrates and narrates her process step by step, exploring composition, values, color, and texture while working from a variety of sources: everyday objects, photographs, and master paintings.

Students are welcome to follow along with Dominique’s chosen subject or bring their own—whether still life, landscape, portrait, or figure. The goal is to discover the magic in our daily surroundings and to make visible what often goes unseen.

Critiques:

Still Life Painting with a Limited Palette (All Levels)

Still life painting is an essential practice for mastering the techniques that form the foundation of all painting disciplines. In this 5-week class, we will explore composition, color harmony, and techniques for capturing the texture and quality of objects. We’ll focus on the four key aspects of painting: Proportion, Value, Color, and Edge. Using a carefully selected primary palette of seven colors, we will refine our understanding of color relationships and theory. Through technical exercises and the completion of two paintings, we will sharpen our observation skills and deepen our ability to translate what we see onto the canvas.

Procreate for Painters – Part 2: Editing Reference & Composition

In this follow-up Procreate class, we’ll take your digital art skills to the next level with a focus on  editing reference, composition, and building a strong reference for painting. Designed especially for traditional artists—particularly oil painters—this workshop will help you develop a digital workflow that supports your creative process.

Agustina will guide you through practical techniques for using Procreate as a powerful planning tool. You’ll learn how to strengthen your compositions, experiment with light and color, and combine multiple references into one cohesive image—before ever picking up a brush.

In this workshop you will learn how to:

• Edit and manipulate photo references

• Strengthen compositions and value structures

• Experiment with color and lighting digitally before painting

• Combine multiple references into a cohesive painting plan

• Build digital skills that support traditional oil painting

• Troubleshoot a portrait using Procreate

Requirements:

This class is intended for students who already have a basic working knowledge of Procreate. You should feel comfortable with things like:

• Importing and resizing an image

Technique and self-expression are two sides of the same coin. In this class, we learn how to communicate our ideas through drawing and painting. Dominique leads and participates by modeling the process of designing, creating compositional studies. We will dive into the art of finding beauty in the everyday. As John Singer Sargent put it, ‘You should be able to walk five paces, turn around, and find something interesting to paint.’ We will paint a scene from within our homes. You can also choose to copy one of three Sargent interiors.

Dominique will find a location in her home, demo from life and working with a limited palette. Our goal is to uncover the magic in familiar surroundings, to capture the light and color of our everyday lives.

This is a good opportunity to learn about glazing, scumbling and more generally how to work edges, detail, texture and put the final touches on a painting.
