Drawing Portraits with believable color isn’t hard if we learn how to break the process up into manageable steps. We will draw portraits and figures from life and explore various techniques for creating colorful and luminous portraits. Learning to see things simply is key to developing our drawing skills. We will focus on the 4 main aspects of drawing portraits: Proportions, Values, Colors, and Edge types. Dominique will demo as well as critique students each session. Practicing this way will help sharpen our observation, and take our skills to a new level.

Skill level is not that important although basic drawing skills are a plus. Any student that is interested in receiving instruction and willing to put in the practice is welcome.

This is a good opportunity to learn about glazing, scumbling and more generally how to work edges, detail, texture and put the final touches on a painting.

In this workshop we will develop our intuition and spontaneity with short poses in the morning sessions and our accuracy and likeness with a long poses in the afternoon. In This class we will practice the techniques of the Gilded Age's most celebrated portrait painter John Singer Sargent.
